Module 1.3: Why we need to detox
So where do we start? How do we detox the body and why do we need to?
Well for starters, everyone has toxins in their life - harmful substances that are produced by your body or obtained from the environment. They are all around us in the air, in the water we drink, the food we eat, the products we use, the stress we experience, the relationships that damage us.
Examples of internal toxins (or endotoxins) are excess hormones, free radicals, bacteria and yeast. These internal toxins can accumulate in the body and cause chronic infections, allergic reactions, and other health issues.
External toxins (or exotoxins) are toxins found in our bodies that are externally produced. External toxins include substances such as pesticides in food, heavy metals, mould, medications, and chemicals in personal care products, cleaners, carpets, furniture, and paint. Environmental pollution from cars, smoke, smog or debris and contaminated water are also sources of external toxins.
Detoxing is a way to eliminate these harmful toxins from the body and restore optimal health.
